Succesfully defended my African Elite Tri Title

Durban again hosted the 2010 African Elite Triathlon Championships this year.

A new venue with an ocean swim, flat bike and a very twisted run course was set to stage this year’s event.

I had my mind set on defending my title, and was prepared to race hard to do so.

I had a good solid swim, exiting the water securely in the front group consisting of mmyself Sander (Netherlands), Hendrik and Mehdi (

Morocco). On the bike things were going as expected with front four just keeping the pace up, extending our lead on th

e rest of the athletes. Going into the run things looked good as I comfortably ran with Sander for the first 5km. Things started to go a bit wrong by the end of the 2nd lap, but I still finished a respectable 2nd overall and was again crowned African Elite Champion 2010.

Happy with that !!

Got my second win of the series in my new hometown today.

Potchefstroom was buzzing with hundreds of avid athletes all wanting their share of the action. Up front the racing was on and the Nestle and BSG boys were battling it out once again.

I got out the water up front again and managed to stay out of trouble on the bike leg. I had to win in on the run again today, but can’t be happier with how things went. I can definitely feel I’m getting stronger in every race, so looking forward to the rest of them.

Next weekend its off to Pretoria for race 3.

JHB Tri#3 Final

Podium

The final race of the series did not go exactly as planned for me. The boys raced well today, and the hammer was certainly down. I was unable to keep contact on the bike which meant I lost some time coming into T2. On the run things continued to look pretty dull, but I got a 3rd nonetheless, which meant a 2nd place  check in the overall series. Can’t be too disappointed with that. !

JHB Tri Series race #1

Written by admin on December 18, 2008 – 3:37 pm -

December 14, another day of racing. This time however it was a standard non-drafting event.
Going into this race well under-prepared, I was out there to see what I can do whilst keeping things under controll, with a tired body…………..
I had to do very little swimming as I used the new Zoot swimsuit, which was pretty cool!
As for the rest of the race, lets just say I tried to make things as easy as possible for myself on the day, and I managed to grab a 2nd place finish behind Sander……….not too bad!!

That wraps up racing for the year…………..Now it base training again in prep for 2009. :-)

The overall podium

The overall podium

So…., today was the final race of the Series. We have been running around the country chasing points and money, and today it all comes to an end. Potchefstroom is the venue for today, where hundreds of human shapes will do battle against themselves and others……and having fun doing it!

I am not going to get boring with the details of the race, so just gonna say that I won, Wikus Weber crashed, Sander Berk got 2nd, Claude got 3rd, Abraham Louw won the Juniors again, Nestle Team dominated, everybody had fun, I loved seeing certain people and the weather was great.

To top that off,  I secured my first win in the Overall Series…..Me = 2008 Senior Men’s BSG Energade Series Champion……….Awesome! :)
